Wendell State Forest

A gorgeous hike in Wendell State Forest yesterday, where Gilly & I hadn’t been in about three years.

It’s still awesomely beautiful, and still full of bears.

In fact, while us humans were sitting up on the cliffs admiring the foliage, Gilly suddenly exploded into a fit of frenzied and deep-throated barking and growling, his hackles up so high he looked like a frilled lizard.

Apparently, a bear had decided to come down the narrow – and only – path leading to and from the overlook.

It thought better of doing that, thanks to my good boy’s protectiveness, and meandered away in another direction.

Good thing.

The edge of a cliff isn’t really where you want to be trying to establish that you mean no harm.
