Today’s hike in Harkness Conservation Area & The Butter Hill Wildlife Sanctuary

Perfect weather, perfect time of year:

We both heard, smelled and sensed a bear on one whole section of trail,

so we made a lot of noise and no one surprised anyone else.

This fall’s acorn yield is so huge it’s like walking on marbles out there. Thousands upon thousands of them littering the ground in loose piles.

The rodents and deer are going to be sassy this winter.

  1. Beautiful autumnal foliage! I wish we got more of that down here in my neck of the woods. And how I adore the alert-looking-for-bear-tickling-my-feet-on-fallen-leaves pose…

  2. Isn’t it grand?

    I love that pose, too.

We both get a hackles-up and simultaneously happy & curious reaction to a bear nearby.
